Innovative Training Tailored to the Needs of a Booming Maritime Industry

Recruiting and retaining skilled workers are key challenges facing the maritime industry. Rapidly evolving technologies, numerous regulations and increasingly stringent environmental requirements are transforming the sector, increasing the need for worker skills development. In this context, the role of the Human Resources Sectorial Committee of the Maritime Industry (CSMOIM) is to support workforce skills development and improve companies' human resources management practices, through key initiatives and strategies.

Supporting the industry's workforce

In light of these challenges, the CSMOIM, with the financial support of the Quebec government, has developed an extensive training project in collaboration with the Collège de Rimouski, through the Continuous Training program of the Institut maritime du Québec (IMQ). Over the coming months, several of these training courses will be offered, including four that are now available:

  • Liquefied natural gas (LNG) – Advanced training
  • Emergency spill response (ESR)
  • Prevention and management of electric vehicle fires in a maritime context (PVE)
  • Land firefighting and shipboard response

These training courses represent a major asset for all trades in the maritime and perimaritime sectors. They will enable workers to improve their skills and acquire in-demand competencies. As a result, they will be able to advance their careers, take greater advantage of the professional opportunities that come their way, and contribue to the modernization of the industry.
